Weekly Challenge: Food Diary

I feel like proper nutrition is the bane of my existence. I go on a diet, I’m tired all the time; I go off the diet, I’m tired all the time and I gain weight; and so it goes. So I am going to try and start with a clean slate by keeping a food diary this week that will also include keeping notes of how I am feeling, particularly before/during/after running. I figure this way I can (maybe) finally get a clear idea of what is working and what isn’t.

Simple, right? Why didn’t I do this before, you ask? Laziness! Plus, it can be so embarrassing sometimes to look at what you have eaten and realize that yes, you really did eat about five cookies when you weren’t actually hungry.



  1. I go through those cycles too. I find that the more I try to control it, the more it gets out of control. Have you ever heard of the book “Intuitive Eating”? You may want to check your local library for it. Its not a diet book. It actually helped me recover from anorexia a few years ago.

  2. I think diet can be a bad word. Not necessarily in terms of describing what you eat, etc., but in terms of how one needs to be on a diet. i’m sure everyone knows what I mean.
    But re-learning old eating habits is crucial to helping one maintain and sustain a healthy nutritional lifestyle. Gee, that sounds pretty generic but it’s true! You have to get yourself to a point where you don’t really even feel tempted by those 5+ cookies. It takes
    self-determination and inner power, but it you resign yourself to it, you can achieve it.

  3. Keeping a food diet helped me to gage how many calories I was taking in during a day. It will definetly help you try to gauge why you have a loss of energy in the afternoon. I got tired of having to write everything down and calculate everything though so mine didn’t last long…yikes.
